I attended the Leicester City Galleries annual open last night. Not because I had anything entred this year…stupidly missed the deadline…but because, yet again, an Eskimo Blue student had a piece of work selected. ‘Simon, Kiss Me Quick’ was the fine work of Sienna Griffen Shaw of the 11 plus pottery class. I bumped into Sienna as I was heading for a glass of wine (it had been a long day). She bounced about with a twinkle in her eye and a wide grin “Simon is sold!” she declared. A very proud moment and I did feel more than a tad emotional. I felt very lucky to be there and to be able to share in her excitement.
It turned out that ‘Simon’ was the first piece in the entire exhibition to have a little red dot by him. Can’t get much more of a compliment than that!
Looking forward to next years event. I think it’s much more fun when one of the students have their work in the Open than when I have mine in it. A good day. Well done Sienna!
